In honor of Veterans Day, I would like to thank the Veterans for their service to our country. It is because of you we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Did you know that in many instances, life insurance is not available for active military members unless you have a service member's group policy? According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, covered members receive 120 days of free coverage from their date of separation. After the 120 days of coverage, you are left without life insurance. There is an option of converting your service member's insurance to an individual plan; however not all plans, riders or amounts are convertible.
Once you leave the military, your needs may change. Perhaps you have secured a new job or are purchasing a new home. If you are married and have children or planning to have children, they will need income protection as well. There is als the possiility that he end of your military career marks the begining of your retirement. You may also work as a civilian and be in the reserves. Did you know that an active reserve member does not have the same life insurance amount as a full time active military member? You would not be able to convert the full amount you previously had when you were in the military as a full-time member. Talking to a life insurance specialist upon completion of your military career is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure your family's security well into the future.
We recently had a 50 year old client, who is in the army reserves. He has a service member's life insurance policy of $150,000. His wife is a stay-at-home mom and has children going into college. The $150,000 amount was not enough for his family needs. The client did not have any plans or orders for active deployment and he is in excellent health. He was able to secure a $750,000, 20 year term life insurance policy for under $120 per month.
If you recently left the military and have questions regarding your life insurance needs, please contact a reputable life insurance marketplace specialst. Remember many can get you a free term life insurance quote too. We are here to help protect you as you have protected us during your years in the military.
