The Easy Way To Home Improvement

We humans are always seeking improvement in virtually all areas of our lives. Why else would we draft ambitious and occasionally outrageous New Year resolution plans at the end/eve of every New Year? Improvement adds some excitement to our lives. One of the greatest feelings in life is having something to look forward to. A (lean) fit body, an exciting professional career, a trip around the world, seeing someone you love after a while...even simple things like the scent of a well cooked meal hanging in the air, wafting through and hitting your nose the moment you walk through the door , starved after laboring the day away.

Just like humans, the home sometimes needs a 'face-lift.' There comes a time when you walk into your home and an ugly thought hits you-your entire house looks stale. It could be the arrangement of furniture, the same wall art from ten or fifteen years ago when you were overzealous about décor. You realize your tastes have changed and your home needs to change too to fit into your phase of life.

Here are a few tips on how to improve your home and give your eyes a fresh sight to feed on each time.

1. The Door

Changing your door will have the most remarkable difference on your home. You could repaint the door to a colour of your choice, change the door knock, hang up a witty or motivating message, do neutral street art on it depending on the policy in your locality or add fixtures.

2. The Walkway/Driveway

You could overlay tiles of different colors and have fun mixing different designs and patterns to achieve a dazzling effect. Some professional help might be needed to bond the tiles to the ground.

A bland driveway made out of tarmac only could benefit from painting tracks on it. You can do this without professional help, since all you need is a jar of paint and a pair of overalls. It could be an activity that whiles away time on idle weekend or you can involve the whole family.

Plant some flowers like petunias on the side of the path to beautify the compound.

Depending on your finances, you can never go wrong by having a sculpture erected in your compound or a tiny beautiful fountain.

3. The Patio

Wooden furniture for a rustic feel is a great choice. Hang some potted plants or change the pots for tastefully decorated ones

4. The Yard

Keep tools away in a shed, repaint the swing sets if any, use turf for patches where there's some earth.

5. The Living Room

Create space by moving/rearranging unnecessary furniture, and getting them out of the way. Have less pictures lined on the walls and shelves. Having more open space has been linked to less stress and calmer minds. Use adjustable lighting so you can brighten and dim the lights as you please. Add potted plants to improve the circulation of air in the room and to purify it further.

6. The Kitchen

Declutter. Give away or sell whatever appliances you are hoarding or haven't used in ages.

7. The Bedroom

Change your covers, add a soft comfortable rug to the floor replace your headboard, and add some colorful cushions to the bed.

There are countless ways to improve a home, only you need to spot something that doesn't thrill your senses and change it.
