Tips For Eco-Friendly Modern Kitchens

When you hear the term 'going green' or having an eco-friendly kitchen, it can mean so many things. Generally, the idea behind a modern eco-friendly green kitchen is to have in-built fixtures set to use the least materials that could also be recycled easily. All the while, such modern kitchens are still giving attention to contemporary minimalist aesthetics.

The kitchen walls and drawers are produced from ultra-thin materials so as to utilize fewer resources and during assembly, no glue is used. This new minimalist approach is not just a choice of design but also a sustainable eco-strategy.

In this regard, the Australian Environment & Planning Directorate has been established to offer advice and information for the building construction industry, apart from registration, licensing and regulation. Therefore, it's prudent to find out from the directorate who can carry out suitable work for you as you put up your eco-friendly home or kitchen.

Having pointed that out, you could use these tips towards a greener kitchen approach...

1. Whenever Possible, Go Green

Many ordinary household products found in your kitchen pantry can assist in getting rid of those bothersome and stubborn food and grease stains. For instance, the mixture of warm water and baking soda can work as a useful stovetop cleaner, whilst undiluted vinegar may be useful in cleaning sticky cabinets.

Rather than wipe down your kitchen bench tops and oven using chemical-ridden, commercial cleaning formulas, you may instead go for a cleaner, 'green' natural liquid solution. Lemon, baking soda and plant-based dishwashing liquids may be employed as all-purpose kitchen cleaners for various surfaces.

2. Re-Use Empty Containers And Jars

Those empty jam jars and similar containers need not always find their way to the dust bin. It's convenient to clean these out and grant them a new role in the house. Add a beautiful ribbon to those jars and use them as vases for your flowers. There are many small kitchen bits which could be safely kept in some of your large empty jars and containers.

3. Plan Family Meals In Advance

Cut down on food wastage in your kitchen by purchasing only what the family requires to make meals. This can be realized by careful planning in advance, which could also mean having just one supermarket trip, weekly. You'll also save on paper-bags, wrappings and costs too!

4. Use Reusable Shopping Bags

According to statistics from Clean Up Australia, in excess of 10 million new bags are being used each day in Australia. Every year, 3.76 billion of such bags are making it to the dump.

Remember to take with you the reusable shopping bags whenever you go to the supermarket, because such plastic bags are only going to add to the landfills across the country. These plastic bags are causing great harm to marine life, killing thousands of them, yearly.

The most worrying thing is that plastic bags take a very long time to disintegrate, as they can last from anywhere between twenty and 1,000 years. Why not go shopping using your reusable bags? It saves the fragile environment and saves you a few dollars too.
