A ghillie suit is absolutely important when you are going out for combat or hunting. The suit camouflages snipers in the military as they pursue their targets and can be used by hunters as they capitalise on their prey. It is a traditional, age-old practice to use vegetation to hide oneself in times of combat as you approach the enemy. Ghillies have saved a lot of soldiers' lives in the battlefield. Most of them are supplied but have you ever thought of making your own ghillie suit for hunting? It is possible to make your own professional ghillie suit by using readily available materials.
What you have to consider when you are making your own suit is the kind of materials that you will use. You will need a set of fabric permanent dyes that will blend with the surroundings you will find yourself in. you will have to a camouflage hat, a camouflage jacket and cap. A piece off burlap that can be wrapped around your body several times, get netting with an average of 1 inch of spacing, glue and a glue gun. After you have gathered the materials, you have to get the burlap string, you pull it string by string till it reaches thirty inches long and then you die the string.
Once you have your burlap strings ready, you should now dye them deeply with the appropriate colours. You have to choose your colours strategically and significantly. If you are going into an area that is lush with greenery, where the nature is primarily green, you should use forest green dyes. If the area you want to penetrate is floored by dead leaves, you should dye the burlap strings with brown dyes to adapt. If you are emerging from the field you should use a variety of tans of the strings to blend in. if you want to negotiate a forested area which may be light or heavily forested, you can choose either plain green, jungle green or olive green dyes to put onto the burlap strings. You should give the burlap different shades of the same colour. Colours are effective in the art of camouflage, a ghillie suit is successfully worn on account of the colors which enable you adapt to the surroundings.
The netting is what the burlap strings will attach to. So the next step is to lay the clothes you are using on the ground and lay the netting over them, remember those camouflage clothes mentioned earlier. So that the netting fits, you should cut the net accordingly as the size of your clothes. Cut the net for both sides of your ghillie suit if you want a full suit but if you will lay down a lot, it is prudent to make netting or the back only. Next step is to attach the burlap strings. Grab three or four strings at the same time. You should bend them to form long U shapes, these U shapes are placed under a string from the netting one half of the U shaped string should be under the netting and the other over. Then you pull the nets and the strings. There you have it, the ghillie suit is made and ensure you mix up the colous before you go out on the field.
