How To Repair Leaking Taps

Leaks in bathroom taps are usually caused by worn out washers. You can repair a leaking bathroom tap by replacing a new washer all by yourself. You do not need to call a plumber to do it for you.

Replacing a new tap in your bathroom is not a hard task provided you have the basic Do It Yourself skills. If you do not trust yourself or you do not have the confidence, you can call a plumber to do the job for you.

Step 1: Turn Off The Water Supply

Step 4: Remove The Headgear Nut

Remove the headgear nut using a spanner. Do this with a lot of care making sure that you do not break the pipe work of the tap. If you break it you will need to call in a plumber to fix the major dripping that will occur. The washer can be seen after the headgear has been taken out.

Step 5: Remove The Washer

Using a screwdriver, remove the washer. You can use oil to lubricate it before unscrewing it if has become hard to remove because of the accumulation of rust.

Step 6: Fix The New Washer

In this step, you just fix in the new washer. Do not forget to use oil to lubricate the bottom of the washer.

Step 7: Put Back The Tap

T o put back the tap, follow the order you used to remove the tap but this time in a reverse order. Be careful not to skip any step because the tap will not work.

Step 8: Turn On The Water Supply

After everything is fixed back to its place, turn on the water supply to the bathroom.

Step 9: Test The Tap

You can then turn on the tap and test to see whether it is working correctly. If it is not leaking, then you have repaired your bathroom tap successfully. If it is still leaking, tighten the screws and the tap itself and it will be as good as new.
