The majority of homes have the standard floor mounted toilets. Though they are the easiest to install as well as the least expensive, they do however consume much more space when compared to other versions like the wall hung or wall mounted toilets.
Today we are hearing that the latest trends in toilets are the wall hung toilets. However, what exactly is the wall hung toilet? How does it differ from the other toilets? What are the reasons behind their popularity?
Basically, there are three types of the wall floor mounted series toilets:
1. The traditional toilet is mounted and secured on the floor and all plumbing is done through the bathroom floor.
2. The wall mounted toilet is physically mounted onto your bathroom wall, with some or even all plumbing going through bathroom floor.
3. Finally, the wall hung toilet is actually hung from the bathroom wall with its cistern installed inside the bathroom wall cavity. All the plumbing is to be found inside your wall cavity.
The Wall Hung Toilet
Strictly speaking, this is a toilet hanging from the wall with no support from the floor. Although some have external cisterns, the most trending models have their cisterns installed inside your bathroom wall.
It is because of this unique detail that their installation ought to be done in accordance with the Building Commission (BC) of Australia guidelines. The BC operates within the Commonwealth Department of Commerce and is in charge of licensing all major renovations, especially those of a commercial nature.
Wall Hung Toilets Styles
- For these toilets, the key word is minimalism in design. All attempts are made to keep external features to the minimum.
- One area in which designers have a free hand is with the wall hung toilet shapes and designs. Several are designed in more elongated shapes while some others are available in cube shapes.
- They are very ideal for the ultra-modern, smaller and minimalist bathrooms. They are extremely useful for usage in a wet room.
Wall Hung Toilets Advantages
The two main advantages of these types of toilets are:
1. As the cistern is mounted within your bathroom wall cavity, it uses less bathroom space. This leaves you ample space to install other amenities in your bathroom and reduces clutter.
2. As your toilet literally "floats" above your bathroom floor, its gives the place a more modern and sleeker appearance. It will leave your guests totally impressed as these are generally found in hotels and offices.
Are there Any Disadvantages?
The wall hung toilets disadvantages are essentially in relation their rather complex installation and cost implications. However for one who appreciates what the final product is going to be, this should really not be an issue. Moreover, a good installation expert will do a commendable job to give you that awesome bathroom look.
In addition, due to the rather complex nature of installation requirements, wall hung toilets must be done by a professional plumber in line with the Plumbing Code of Australia (Vol. 3) and the National Construction Code (AS NCC # 3). This must also be done in conjunction with the Plumbing Code of Australia developed and implemented by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB).
