Blocked Drains - Various Tools Used

There are many aspects of a building that need to work right so that the structure can be habitable and usable. The plumbing system of the building has to function properly to allow users to conveniently use the property. There should be a clean water supply and a drainage system, and all appliances that are connected to the water system should work properly.

These appliances are built to supply water and dispose of waste that is in small particles. However, there are times where large particles get into the drains through various means which results in blocked drains. Look at a plumber that are skilled in unclogging blocked drains using the latest technologies which are very effective.

Using The Plunger

There are certain tools which are required for a plumber to unclog blocked drains successfully. You can get a blocked drain in your toilet, bathtub, kitchen sinks or bathroom sinks. Your floor drain can also block and so can the drainage pipes found outside your home.

You can always try to unclog your sinks, toilets and bath tubs using a plunger. You should ensure that the plunger is submerged in water before you press the plunger into the drain opening.

You should place pressure on the plunger and release severally before eventually lifting the plunger from the opening of the drain. If you try to unclog several times without any success, then you should try a different tool. Do not exert too much force on blocked drains. Plumbers will be able to unclog the drains while ensuring that the pipes are not damaged.

Plumber's Snake

A plumber's snake or a cable auger is a tool that is used to get rid of blockages which are located deeper in the drain. The plumber's snake is a long cable that can be a hundred feet long which is made from flexible steel wires. The tool is lowered into the drain and pushed until the blockage is reached. The plumber can then twist the tool until the blockage is broken down into small pieces which can then flow down the drain.

If the plumber realizes that the blockage is too large or stubborn, he can opt to use an electric power auger. This is a plumber's snake that has a motor which is turned on when the blockage is reached.

The motor turns the wires at the end of the auger so that it can break the blockage into small pieces which can easily flow down the blocked drains. Plumbers also use closet augers which are specifically used to unclog blocked toilets.

Preventing Blocked Drains

There are a few things which you can do to ensure that you do not experience blocked drains often. You can routinely pour hot water down your drains so that any clog that is stuck in the insides of the pipes can be loosened to avoid any accumulation of grime. You can have strainers on your sinks which catch food particles and hair so that these items do not get into the drains and block them.

Ensure that large objects are not flushed down the toilet and that leaves are promptly swept from the garden. Leaves tend to accumulate in drains thus causing the drains to block.
